Just ask for Jesse!

"Island kids from Martinique. They had never seen snow before, let alone ski. They had a great day and were linking turns by the end of the 4 hour lesson. And I don't speak French!"  -Jesse

Jesse, is one of the many fabulous instructors at Mt. Hood Meadows in Oregon.  He has a vast technical knowledge of skiing and is happy to share it. He is a very patient instructor and is great with beginning skiers.  He has been teaching at Mt. Hood Meadows for three years, and has the skills and drills to advance your skiing whatever level you may start at.  He may not speak French, but he does speak German!  Anyway, much like love, skiing is a universal language.  No translations required.  Just get to the mountain and fall in love with the lifestyle!  For a fantastic lesson, request Jesse at Mt. Hood Meadows Ski School.

The Line guys are back at Mt. Hood!

Side Sliding is Hard from NIMBUS INDEPENDENT on Vimeo.

Dylan Hood and Eric Pollard ski a morning and then snowboard an afternoon at Mt. Hood Meadows.

I've been spending all my days in the Fun Zone with the itty bitty rippers and missing out on all of that big mountain action.

Hey Line guys, next time you're on the mountain stop by the Wonder Carpet and say hi. My little guys might not know who you are but I sure do!

ski like a girl says, "It's Learn a Snow Sport Month in Oregon!"

Oh what a fabulous state I live in!  There are a lot of great things about Oregon but this month ski like a girl's favorite is this, Govenor Kulongowski proclaims January 2010 to be "Learn a Snow Sport Month" in Oregon!

Oregon ski areas are proud to offer affordable and easy discounted introductory programs to make learning winter sports a cinch. From what to wear, when to arrive and where to park, to renting equipment and meeting your professional instructor.

All it takes is a sense of adventure and a willingness to give it a try. Oregon's Learn to Ski / Snowboard Program:
  1. Ensures a fun and easy introduction.
  2. Guarantees proper instruction to get you started correctly.
Discover the dynamic world of skiing and snowboarding. Whether you want to get involved with your friends, your family, or by yourself, there are very few activities that provide the fun, excitement and purse sense of freedom of downhill winter sports. Get off your couch, escape from the city, and be energized by spectacular alpine scenery and fresh mountain air!

ski like a girl and your snow report

Study: Ski Resorts Tell Tall Tales About Deep Snow

Heard on All Things Considered

January 4, 2010 - MELISSA BLOCK, host:

Two researchers have confirmed something skiers and snowboarders have long suspected: Resorts sometimes boost their snowfall measurements to attract more customers. The researchers found that ski areas report more snowfall on the weekends.

Really? I can't believe that. I always believed in the weekend effect. According to the study there is twenty-three percent more snow reported on weekends, on average, across all resorts.

Check out NPR for more info on the study.

I know my mountain doesn't lie. Today's snow report for Mt. Hood Meadows went something like this.

Here's your Snow Report!

Good morning. Let's sing a song together this morning: "Rain, rain, go away, don't come back 'til after May." If we can get everyone on this email list to sing along, perhaps we can change today's precipitation into a couple feet of powder. On a brighter note, NPR did a story yesterday about ski resorts lying to their guests: http://bit.ly/7PvyJO At least we tell you the truth, even when it hurts! Thanks for skiing and riding Meadows. We love you! Have a great day today!

A special thanks to Temira Wagonfeld, one of the awesome snow phone and website reporters for Mt. Hood Meadows in Oregon, for keeping it real.

Well I love you too Meadows. Rain or no rain I still wish I was skiing.

xoxo,

ski girl

p.s. Week 2 of shoulder rehab. Getting really good at one armed everything, except push ups. Just not feeling it.

This is the forecast for the weekend at Meadows!  Tomorrow is our ski school rehire day.  Once I'm done with the meeting, the paperwork and the running around  (getting a locker, new uniform, season pass picture...)  I get to ski!!!!!!!!

I did take a few runs at Timberline this week.  Didn't want to end up in a ski school clinic on my first day back on the slopes.   The first run was painfully bad but after I remembered "I do know how to ski" it got a whole lot better.

November Powder!

Here's a video of me going down Thunder.  I'll post another one at the end of the season so you can see my improvement.  I'm working on my PSIA Level 2 exams this year.  Any ski instructors out there with any tips or MA of my skiing please comment!

xoxo,
ski girl

p.s. Only 4 more days until Hawaii!  The forecast is 85 degrees on Thanksgiving. Not enough snow on Mauna Kea to take skis.  Maybe next time?!
