The facts from Green Sangha

Shoppers worldwide are using 500 billion to one trillion single-use plastic bags per year.
This translates to about a million bags every minute across the globe, or 150 bags a year for every person on earth. And the number is rising.

“But plastic bags are so convenient!”
It depends on how far you are looking. A plastic bag may be convenient for a minute or two when you carry something out of the store, but consider these costs:

Plastic bags are made from a non-renewable resource: oil!
An estimated 3 million barrels of oil are required to produce the 19 billion plastic bags used annually in California.
Greenhouse gas emissions
Plastic manufacturing’s air pollution contributes greatly to global “weirding” (extreme weather of all sorts) we are experiencing is the result.
Non-biodegradable
Plastic is food for no one. It never completely breaks down.
Litter
We see bags hanging on trees, along the roadside, slipping down the storm drain, and floating in the ocean. Even when we do put them in the garbage, they don’t always make it to the landfill. 47% of landfill blow-away trash is plastic.
Toxicity
Manufacturing plastic releases toxins in the air, as does recycling plastic. The additives used in plastic are often toxic and can leach into our food. The surface of plastic is chemically attractive to some of the worst toxins in our environment (e.g., PCBs and pesticide metabolites).
Harm to Marine Life
More than 100,000 marine mammals and turtles, one million seabirds, and countless fish worldwide are killed by plastic rubbish each year.
Choking the ocean
Beaches on every continent are littered with plastic scraps and particles. In a recent surface trawl of the North Pacific Gyre, 46 pounds of plastic were found for every pound of zooplankton.
We’re eating plastic
Fine particles of plastic are taken in by filter-feeders in the ocean. These plastic-laden small creatures are then eaten by larger animals and plastics work their way up the food chain, all the way to our seafood menu.

Jesse, is one of the many fabulous instructors at Mt. Hood Meadows in Oregon. He has a vast technical knowledge of skiing and is happy to share it. He is a very patient instructor and is great with beginning skiers. He has been teaching at Mt. Hood Meadows for three years, and has the skills and drills to advance your skiing whatever level you may start at. He may not speak French, but he does speak German! Anyway, much like love, skiing is a universal language. No translations required. Just get to the mountain and fall in love with the lifestyle! For a fantastic lesson, request Jesse at Mt. Glen Plake PSIA Level 1 Alpine Instructor

I'm sure glad that when I passed my PSIA Level 1 exam, no one posted my scores online! Glen Plake did a lot better than I did. I got a lot of 3's. I was a much better teacher, than skier when I first took the exam. I have heard that the exams are more difficult in Colorado. Way to go Glen! Glen is now officially a Level 1 alpine instructor at Breckenridge. How cool is that? I'd love to take a lesson from him. I wish he worked with me in Kid Ski. Fun, fun , fun!

Another day, another snow storm. Here are 50 ways to spend a snow day:

Make an abominable snowman. It’s like a regular snowman, but less friendly to passers-by.

Practice multiplication and script with your kids. That’ll put them in a REALLY good mood. For older kids, break out the practice tests.

Delete all of the expletive-laden “music” from your teenager’s Napster playlist on the family computer, while she’s not looking.

Make snow ice cream, slushies or ‘tinis. Harvest icicles for the latter.

Put on your fanciest evening dress and jewelry, grab your cocktail and pretend you’re in an old movie. That sounds a lot better than, “Sit around your apartment and get wasted.”

Fill squirt bottles with water and food coloring and make art on the snow. Let your dog help out.

Trudge around town for a store that hasn’t sold out on sleds.

Wash the floors by hand. Or use a toothbrush.

Do that mending and ironing you’ve been putting off since 2004.

Groom the dog. Then suck all the fur off your couch.

Make freeze-ahead dinners. The ones you wish you had right now.

Go rooftop luging.

Get kids the Lil’ Capt. Robert Scott Antarctic Expedition playset.

Shovel through piles of climate change theories.

Shred your pile of old documents. Better yet, multitask. Use them to light up the fireplace.

Change the batteries in the smoke detectors, since you forgot during Fall Back.

Find all the lids to the Tupperware.

Play Monopoly with the rules that make the game go slower.

Go through your junk drawer. Do not be afraid.

Clean your silverware and jewelry. Alternatively, pine for silverware and jewelry worth cleaning.

Sort mementos into keep and toss piles. Spend time poring over the keepers—after all, that’s why you’re keeping them.

Make a master calendar for gift-giving dates. Shop ahead online. Or for yourself. Pretend there are sales.

Invite over neighbors and children you rarely see for a potluck dinner.

Make a list of all the things you love about your valentine for a card or scrapbook. Make stuff up if you have to.

Actually use those cross-country skis, or skates or showshoes you were always planning to try out after a big snow. C’mon, you can do it!

Scan old photos and make a photo book. Then force the kids to look at pictures of their parents when they were little.

Do your taxes! April 15 only feels far off.

Chug a shot and break open your financial portfolio.

Order seeds and plants for your spring garden. Yes, spring will come eventually.

Update your resume. Hey, it’s better than doing it at work and leaving it in the copying machine.

Go through clothes (for you and your children) in drawers and closet. Try on and toss.

Upload your CDs, finally. Now, this may be difficult: Toss the CDs and the CD player.

Take out all the beach chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards and make a beach day in the snow.

Google yourself.

Collect all the pennies from the corners of the house, coat pockets, sofa cushions, jeans in the laundry. Maybe you’ll have enough for a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Then again, maybe not.

Write a letter. You know the kind, with pen and paper.

Make snowflakes out of paper. Tape them to your windows to block out the white piles outside.

Teach haiku—five, seven, five—and make a book of illustrated snow haiku.

Create air fare alerts for deals to your dream destinations.

Play this fun game with your kids: Let’s Clean the Bathroom!

You know that neighbor who won’t stop blasting music? That’s where your shoveled snow goes.

Play family-friendly spin the bottle with your chore list. Hope it doesn’t point to you when it’s time to clean toilets.

Mani-pedi, scrub or mask, deep condition. You choose the body parts.

Bubble bath. Turn down the lights, light a candle and pretend you’re in a spa. Doesn’t do it for you? It’s not completely impossible that a real one is open.

Experiment all day on devising the ultimate chocolate chip cookie. Tasting mandatory.

Begin your memoirs.

Take pictures of all your belongings to inventory for insurance. Now do a written inventory.

Sleep. If that doesn’t work, make some nookie!

Send hate mail to your friends and relatives in warm-weather places. Or block them on Facebook.

Look at Florida real estate online, so you never have to read this again.

It's not cancer!

We got the path report back earlier today and it is awesome. Siena's tumor is benign! It's a choral plaxus papilloma. It's rare but if you end up with a tumor it's a good one to have. No Cancer!!!!!!!!!! The average age that kids have it is age five. Siena is 11. It is very rare for it to reoccur once it has been removed. Her doctor said she'll be ready for spring skiing, April or so!!!! Yay, the little ski princess will ski again.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse....

Back at the hospital with the little ski princess. Seizures! CT was good. No swelling or bruising of the brain. More tests in the morning to see what is up. Scary day but we survived.

Siena's surgery is today

My little ski princess' surgery to remove her brain tumor is today at 7:30 am. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as you go about your day. Siena hopes to get back to her cheer and skiing as soon as possible. I hope that it is as simple as that. Remove the tumor and get on with life. I have been warned that may not be the case. Last night she said goodnight to her tumor and told it that it was the last night it was sleeping in her head. Cute but kind of creepy. She's like that.

With the increasing popularity and safety benefits of helmet use, many parents are purchasing helmets for their children. The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), together with the help of many others in the ski industry, has developed this site to help educate parents about putting helmets on their children while they're on the slopes.
NSAA, the trade association for ski areas across the country, promotes the use of helmets. It's up to you to educate yourself about their benefits and limitations.

Sundance Film Festival

I saw this on the The Huffington Post. there are lots of great reasons to go the the Sundance Film festival but for me this one is the BEST!!!!!!!!

It's True--No One Ever Skis

If movies aren't your thing, this is the perfect time to hit the slopes, since they will be relatively empty. Try fitting in some mountain time toward the end of the festival, when things have calmed down. Park City Mountain Resort (parkcitymountain.com) is the most convenient option, since you can ski right down to Main Street, but it's Canyons (thecanyons.com) that will be buzzing, with its 300-plus acres of new terrain and a new high-speed quad lift with enclosed canopies and heated seats. Snowbasin Resort (snowbasin.com), located 50 minutes north of Park City, is another solid option; it has a fantastic lodge that was built for the 2002 Olympics, when it hosted men's and women's downhill events.

Mt. Hood Meadows Adventure Park

The new Adventure Park at Mt. Hood Meadows!
Just $25 for the entire day gives you access to the rope tow, instruction from freestyle coaches, video analysis, and if you bring your own flash drive you get to take home your video or for $10 you can purchase one! Meadows does require a Lift ticket to access Adventure Park.

The park is equipped with a rope tow so you can lap features without hiking. For $25, you can stay as long as you want and the hours of operation are 9:00am - 5:00pm weekends and holidays.

Adventure Park has boxes & rails as well as a small table top so whether you are experimenting with freestyle for the first time or need some coaching to get you to the next level the coaches are excited to help you improve. Helmets are required for children under 14 years of age.

My dear, sweet Siena

Siena, age 11, on vacation in Hawaii

I haven't been doing personal on this blog lately but here goes. To say that it has been a tough week is an understatement. It has been the hardest week I have ever experienced. I spent it at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, with my sweet Siena. You've known her as my little ski princess. She passed out two weeks ago at cheer practice and then again on Monday at school after jumping rope. I took her to the ER thinking it was her heart, she has a genetic defect. But while we were there she was complaining (screaming) about pain behind her left eye. She was diagnosed last Monday with a brain tumor. Her neural surgeon, Dr. Wehby, will be removing it. They have decided not to biopsy first. I'm not sure what will happen after that. The oncologist will take a look at it and we'll go from there. She will have surgery on 1/24. She had a horrible reaction to the anesthesia for her MRI and we spent 20 plus hours in crazy town. She became feral child. We went through a ridiculous cycle of her becoming depressed, confused, agitated, violent, and suicidal. Then she would be given a sedative. She'd sleep some, wake up and the cycle would begin again. Security was called in to restrain her 2x. It was like Girl Interrupted, I was calling her my little Angelina Jolie. It was insane but it was also a huge distraction from the real reason we were at the hospital. She has a brain tumor.

Finally, things settled down at the hospital and Siena started to have fun there. She got back to her sweet normal self. She went to school on her unit. She played Uno with the other 6th graders. Somehow one of the teachers managed to explain the 6th math, adding and subtracting fractions, in a way that Siena completely understood it. Something that has been evading her all school year got fixed in one tutoring session at the hospital. She also made it through her MRA without anesthesia!!!! I was so worried that we'd head back into the crazies after that. The anesthesiologist, Dr, Rose, bribed her with a trip to the gift shop and a new toy. I love him! I had somehow forgot about bribery as a parenting style to get through some of this. Not to be used too frequently of course. We are now at home for the week so that she can rest in her own bed and play with her kitties. Next week is going to be a big one for us. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

"It was harder than I thought it would be. We found a car park, not really long enough but manageable, then built a small kicker, and prepared a vague reception. Pulling Julien was easy, drifting between the kicker and the landing was easy, jumping high enough was (very) easy for Julien. It became harder when we had to do all of this together, and I had trouble drifting properly, as seen in the video. In the end we had a good chance to test the strength of black crows skis and of Nissan bodywork…"

I'm the kind of person, that when I see something ridiculous, I really want to try it. Not so much with this. I have my limits! Would you try it? Let me know in the comments. I'd love to hear from you.

The Ski Channel Film Festival

Do you live in Colorado? If you do you need to go to The Ski Channel Film Festival. If you don't live in Colorado get on a plane and get there. The Ski Channel Film Festival with be showing over 50 films from January 27 - 2 9 at the Colorado Film Festival in partnership with the 2011 Snow Show at the Colorado Convention Center. As part of the partnership, The Ski Channel has chosen Denver and the Snow Show for its inaugural Ski Channel Film Festival and Ski Film Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which will all be televised. Winter Games 2018

2018 bid process - all three Candidate Cities submit their files

The International Olympic Committee has announced that it has received the candidature files of the three Candidate Cities bidding to host the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Munich (GER), Annecy (FRA) and PyeongChang (KOR) all delivered their files by the deadline of 11th January.

The IOC Evaluation Commission, chaired by IOC member Gunilla Lindberg, will now analyze the Candidature Files and make site inspections as follows:

Annecy: 9th to 12th February

PyeongChang: 16th to 19th February

Munich: 1st to 4th March

The Commission will then prepare a report that will be published to coincide with the 2018 Briefing for IOC Members, which will take place in Lausanne on 18th and 19th May 2011. The election of the host city will take place on 6th July during the 123rd IOC Session in Durban, South Africa.

I'm not sure what I really think about this. Lindsey, you were super hot in Sports Illustrated last year and you certainly are gorgeous in this ESPN Magazine cover shot, but this may be a little too much for some of your younger female fans and uummm me.

What am I talking about here? Well, you do recognize this scene from Basic Instinct? And of course you do know what happens next, don't you? In case you forgot or somehow missed this movie classic you can find a link to the original by searching, “Basic Instinct: Interrogation Scene”. Warning this is not PG13 my young ski like a girl friends. The crossing and uncrossing of Sharon Stone's legs and her lack of undergarments is burned into the memory of many a film-goer.

Christy Mahon first women to ski all 14ers

The Aspen Times reports that Christy Mahon said "It was only fitting for an 'Aspen girl' to become the first woman to climb and ski all of Colorado's 54 peaks over 14,000 feet in elevation."

Christy's climbs and ski descents are chronicled on the Stuck in the Rockies website.

She started with Box Creek Cirque on May 7, 2004 and finished her quest on May 16, 2010 with a descent of Capitol Peak's east face.

Beside being the first woman to climb Colorado's 14ers, Christy is also in a select group of only seven people reported to have skied the high peaks. Four of whom are from Aspen - Lou Dawson, Chris Davenport, Jordan White, and her husband Ted Mahon.

Long Ride

Today is my first 40 mile ride. I'm still on my old mountain bike so it will be a challenge. It only makes me stronger, right? Lake Stevens 70.3 is 3 months away. The weather is cooperating so it should be a fabulous day for a ride.

A perfect mother's day gift would be a tri bike. Cervelo P2! Anyone out there feeling very generous?

I was very excited to open my mail box and receive a package from Be a Girl Today! It was like Christmas in March. Be a Girl Today is run by 5 sisters in Maine who are all active in sports. They ski, board, ride horses, climb mountains and play soccer. I wish they lived closer because I'd hang out with them. Be a girl today is a company that believes girls are athletes not tomboys. Something that ski like a girl believes strongly in too.

Be a Girl Today also gives girls a voice in product development by involving their daughters and friends in a junior advisory board that meets annually. They discuss what is and isn't working and where to go next with the company.

Of course I absolutely love the T-shirt they sent. Anything with ski like a girl on it and I'm in. It's the long sleeved version of this one. A very soft, 100 % cotton shirt. They run a little small so definitely go up a size when ordering.

Lindsey Vonn wins the World Cup Downhill Title

German skier Maria Riesch beat Lindsey Vonn in the World Cup downhill event Wednesday, though the American is still on track to win her 33rd World Cup title, beating Bode Miller's 32-title record. Go Lindsey!

I got 2nd today in the DH race and received the crystal globe for winning the overall DH title. It is always a good day when you are on the podium especially when it is the end of the season and you are trying to lock up an overall title. Going into today my focus was on the overall world cup title and my goal was to ski solid and not risk to much. I knew before my run that Maria was leading by over a second in the finish so my plan was to ski solid and make sure I finished staying as close to Maria as possible. If I can do the same thing in one of the next 3 days/races the overall title will be finished. Tactic tactics tactics! Its not always the most fun way to race, but sometimes you have to do it if you want to win season long titles. Tomorrow is the last GS race of the season 1st run starts at 9am European time I run #27. You can catch the action on www.universalsports.com LV :)

Lindsey Vonn wins the World Cup Super Combined Title

Just turned on Universal Sports to find out the Super Combined is canceled. There was talk of adding a Slalom after tomorrow's regular Downhill but that isn't going to happen now.

Today at 9:15am

The Super Combined race was cancelled today due to high winds. As a racer you want the races to be safe and fair so I think the officials made the right decision in cancelling. Here is what the FIS website wrote on the matter - "The Jury has unanimously decided to cancel today's Ladies' Super Combined in Crans-Montana (SUI) according to the rules. Due to the fact that there is no reserve day available, the SC will not be replaced. The further program in Crans -Montana will stay as scheduled, Saturday DH and Sunday SG." So I think that means I won the Super Combined title! Obviously this isn't the way I wanted to win the title, but I will take it none the less. It's an outdoor sport and anything can happen. Sometimes these decisions go your way like in this case, and sometimes they don't its just part of our sport. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow for the DH!

I have friends and family living and vacationing in Hawaii right now. My parent's live on the Big Island. My brother and his family are on Oahu. My Olympic watching and coverage has been preempted by this impending natural disaster.

Going to a shelter?
What to bring per person - 5 to 7 days worth of food, water, clothing, personal i.d. card, cash. PETS must be accompanied with pet crate or carrier to be allowed in shelter; also, pet id tage, collar and a leash, 3-5 day supply of pet food, medications, litter (for cats).

Remember: ALL BEACHES, PARKS, MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSES, ZOO are CLOSED

Board of Water Supply asks you to Conserve Water. Even if you are in unaffected evacuation areas, if you are uphill, "think twice" before you shower, bathe, wash clothes, wash car, wash dishes. Please conserve until we have an all clear.

HECO said you CAN leave appliances plugged in and please unplug unnecessary appliances.

REMEMBER THAT BUSINESSES, SCHOOLS AND EVENTS IN EVACUATION AREAS WILL BE CLOSED/CANCELED.

"All coastal or low-lying state parks are closed, campers are being notified to evacuate. Oahua coastal parks have been evacuate and secured.

Civil Air Patrol will assist DLNR this morning to fly over the coastline from Mokuleia to Kaena Point to Makua area to notify people to evacuate or get to higher ground.

"Campers at remote campgrounds such as Na Pali Coast State Park on Kauai and Waimanu Valley on the Big Island will be notified to evacuate or get to higher ground.

Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve on Maui is also closed.

Boaters in state small boat harbors are being advised to vacate 2 hours prior to the anticipated time of arrival of possible waves approximately 11:19am, IF they do not plane to take their boats out to sea.

Further updates will be issued as information is obtained. Do not return to coastal areas until the all clear has been announced by emergency officials."

Canada's Bad Girl's of hockey vs. Scotty Lago

Canada's Women's Hockey team is in trouble for a champagne-swigging, cigar-smoking, gold medal celebration. Not to mentions the drunken Zamboni driving! Officials said that kind of behavior is common in Canada. Really? Okay if this is common then bring back Scotty!

Snowboarder, Scotty Lago was sent home after "racy" pictures of him were taken with his bronze medal on while wearing a Team USA t-shirt. Someone snapped a photo of a woman kneeling below Lago's waist to kiss his medal. That picture, and another showing the medal in the woman's mouth while teammate Greg Bretz looks on, appeared on the TMZ Web site.

Lindsey Vonn is hurt but still competing in Ladies' Slalom

Lindsey Vonn broke her pinkie in this crash during her 1st GS run but that won't stop her from racing today. Team doc's have diagnosed her injury as a cracked proximal phalanx of the little finger. This is at the base of the pinkie, where it connects to the hand. Do you ski? Think about how you grip a ski pole. Now think about Lindsey's injury..... Ouch!

What would you do if you broke your pinkie?

Go skiing? What about competing? Lindsey isn't known for letting injuries hold her back, think back to the "shin". A broken pinkie will make it tough to grip a ski pole, but Lindsey has overcome this sort of thing before. She raced the end of the season with her pole taped to her glove after slicing her thumb open on a champagne bottle last February.

lindsey vonn Just got off the training hill. SL training was OK, I still feel pretty beat up after my crash in GS yesterday. I was able to modify one of my gloves and make a brace for my right hand. It seemed to work without too much pain, so I will try and race tomorrow in the SL. Thanks for all of the support I appreciate it! xoxo LV

Julia Mancuso moves to 8th overall in GS

Julia Mancuso came back from yesterday's unfortunate restart with today's third-fastest giant slalom run, moving up from 18th to eighth. Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg won gold. With Tina Maze of Slovenia taking silver and Austria's Elisabeth Goergl the bronze.

Now that the Giant Slalom is over I need to decide what to do with the rest of my day. Here's what Team USA is up to:

Four-time Olympians Angela Ruggiero (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Jenny Potter (Edina, Minn.) lead the U.S. Women’s Hockey Team into the gold medal game against Canada Thursday at Canada Hockey Place.
Men’s aerial finals include a pair of Olympic veterans, Jeret “Speedy” Peterson (Boise, Idaho) and Ryan St. Onge (Winter Park, Colo.), who will jump for medals on Cypress Mountain.
Rachael Flatt (Del Mar, Calif.) and Mirai Nagasu (Arcadia, Calif.), who currently sit fifth and sixth respectively, will look to pull up to the podium when they compete in the ladies free skate at the Pacific Coliseum.
The women’s cross country and men’s nordic combined teams will also vie for medals at Whistler Olympic Park.

Julia Mancuso talks GS & ...

Were you following the Ladies GS yesterday? You should have been. A combination of bad weather and the luck of the draw lead media to speculate that Lindsey Vonn's crash in the GS ruined Julia Mancuso's chances for Gold. Julia is the Gold medal winner of the 2006 Ladies Giant Slalom. Yesterday's mishap has her heading into the 2nd run 18th.

From Julia Mancuso's twitter following her second run down the GS course:

"that yellow flag in the GS was such... I just want to scream. I'm really miffed. Anyway, gotta take that energy and focus it for 2nd run."

It has since been removed from twitter due to some IOC violation. No talking smack about course officials? There was a rumor yesterday that a fine may be levied. I don't see a problem with the tweet. Do you?

"1/2 of the race done. tomorrow morning 2nd run... I know thats strange... but i guess thats what is happening here cause the weather! This facebook note is okay by IOC rules? An athlete can be bummed about a yellow flag but not say a yellow flag was such ...? What does ... actually mean?

Julia is heading into the second run 18th after yesterday's drama and disappointment. She finished 1.3 seconds behind race leader Elisabeth Goergl of Austria. That's a lot of time to make up on the second run but not impossible. Elizabeth took the bronze in the Ladies' Downhill on February 17th, to Julia's silver medal.

Lindsey Vonn crashes on the GS coarse this morning in Whistler. Julia Mancusco was the next in the gates to ski. Due to weather conditions the skiers were starting one minute apart.

Julia was forced to stop and restart the race because Lindsey was still on the side of the course. Julia, the defending champion, then had to make her way back up to the top of the course for a later start. She finished 18th after her first run..

Vonn said she felt terrible for her teammate.

In today's Giant Slalom at Whistler Creekside, Bode Miller arm-hooks gate panel & skis out. He is out of the running for a five for five medal streak in the Winter Games. Bode will have another chance to podium in Saturday's Slalom.

USA Ski Team member Ted Ligety is 8th after the first run. Go Ted! 21-year-old, Tommy Ford earns a second run, and sits in 26th position. Tommy is on his way to becoming USA's next great ski racer. Follow along HERE.

Olympic skier, Julia Mancuso cross trains on Maui with stand up paddle boarding.

“I feel like everything I do contributes to my ski racing. Whether it’s surfing in Hawaii, exercising in a gym or letting my creative side out in some fun way, it’s all part of it... I love to free ski, I love being let loose.”

Jim Tracy, the head women's coach, said he would not mind if Mancuso did not spend her summers in Hawaii.

“Hawaii is a great place,” he said. “I’m not sure if it’s the best training ground for a ski racer.”

I don't know about that Jim, training in Hawaii seems to be working for Julia! ski like a girl wants to get a stand up paddle board. I tried one out over Thanksgiving at Waialea Bay, on the Big Island. It was fun. I'm all about cross training and spending my summers in Hawaii! Maybe I can train with Julia?!

In an interview with Rizzosports Julia says:

"I just love that I can do whatever it is I desire on Maui and not have too many obligations. Yes, I need to sacrifice and hit the gym at a certain time, but other than that I choose what I want to do and when I want to do it. Are there waves? I’ll go surf. Is there wind? I’ll go kite surf. Today ski like a girl is all about Ladies' Ski Cross and the Men's GS! Go Bode! Miller's first Olympic gold in the Super-Combined was the United States' eighth medal (two gold, three silver, three bronze) out of a possible 18 from six alpine disciplines raced so far.

Can Team USA add to it's medal count today?

I think so. Today, USA has another chance to add to the medal count when skiers Ted Ligety and Bode Miller compete in the Men's Giant Slalom at Whistler Creekside. The Men's GS is a race where each skier make two runs down two different courses on the same slope. This could be another big day for the U.S. skiers. Miller has been the star of the Games, with a gold in super-combined, a silver in super-G and a bronze in the downhill. He has a chance at an unprecedented 4th medal today (plus his two silver medals from Salt Lake City). Ted Ligety is the current World Cup leader in the GS. Things are looking good for USA!
